This monthly reading challenge is pretty simple. Just read one book that follows the prompt for each month of 2025. It’s gonna be fun!
It’s 2025, and one of my goals is to read 150 books! I’m also kind of a planner. That being said, I really like to plan out what books I’m reading next, so I decided to make a monthly reading challenge for 2025. Each month, I’m going to challenge you (and myself) to read one book that fits the description.
So, if the challenge says “a book 500 pages long” for May, then you must read a book that is 500 pages long. Don’t worry—that is NOT the challenge for any of these months! 500 pages sounds like a little too much. It’s just an example.
If you want to participate in the challenge I have made a group in storygraph and you can join! Also, you can download the FREE printable with all the challenges on it and check them off as you go.
Here’s the link to the challenge on storygraph: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/59a96ec9-e90b-48ba-a8cc-43ef84e6b628 I have added some books on there as suggestions for each prompt.
2025 Monthly Reading Challenge
January: Self- Help Book
Let’s start 2025 off with some self-improvement! We can work on improving ourselves; nothing motivates me more than a New Year.
February: A Book Written by POC (Person of Color)
February is Black History Month and let’s celebrate that by reading a book written by a person of color.
March: Sports-Themed book
It’s March Madness season! Let’s jump into a sports-themed book. It could be any type of book as long as it has some sport in it.
April: A Poetry Book
April is poetry month. So, let’s read a beautiful poetry book this month and enjoy the weather changing to spring.
May: A Mythological Book
You could ask me why I chose a mythological book and it’s because I just like the way that “Mythological May” sounds.
June: A Book with Summer Vibes
We are at the start of summer so let’s dive into some summer vibes books!
July: A Book Cover with Red, White, or Blue
We are feeling pretty patriotic this month and we need to read a book cover with red, white, or blue on it.
August: A Book Set in a Country You want to Visit
This one should be pretty fun! Pick a book set in a country you want to visit one day. (Let me know in the comments below what country and I’ll see if I can find a book set in it).
September: A Young Adult Book
Class is back in session! Let’s go back to our high school days and read a Young Adult book.
October: A Thriller Book!
It’s officially spooky season! We are going to read a book that will make us keep the lights on at night. Find a thriller and read it!
November: A Memoir
November is my birthday month so let’s read a memoir by someone we admire.
December: Holiday-Themed Book
The last month of the 2025 monthly reading challenge deserves a great choice. Find a holiday-themed book to help get you into the holly jolly spirit of the season.

Wow, such a reading challenge for a whole week seems very interesting. I love reading but still can’t read a book per month. I`ll join your challenge for motivation. Thank you for the idea!
For all the reading I do, I rarely participate in reading challenges but this is one I could easily do. Now I have the initial challenge of figuring out what book would apply for each month so I have a game plan for the entire year.
