Synopsis From Amazon
After seven long years Joan Greenwood is finally returning home. Unfortunately, her family totally forgot about it.
Joan’s homecoming is lukewarm at best, but soon turns disastrous when news hits that someone has created a spell that can turn an ordinary human into a powerful witch, threatening the balance of the magical world and the Greenwood’s place at the top of it.
When her best friend confesses that he has secretly, accidentally, saved this human-turned-witch from an uncertain fate, Joan is thrust headfirst into a desperate race to undo the spell before it does permanent damage to its unwilling host.
Soon, Joan finds herself drawn deeper into the heart of the city’s magic, into an uncertain alliance with a (very attractive) family rival, and far beyond the limits of everything she thought her own magic capable of.

My Review of An Unlikely Coven
First, I want to thank NetGalley, AM Kvita, and Orbit for this advanced reading copy of An Unlikely Coven. This book had a chokehold on me from the first page and just kept getting better!
Joan is the black sheep of her family, and as a fellow black sheep, I really loved reading her story. She doesn’t have any magical powers, and so her family (full of witches) has no idea what to do with her. She finally comes back to the family when someone creates a spell to give humans magical powers. Joan must form a coven of her own to fight the people who created the spell and her own family.
An Unlikely Coven throws you right into the drama, and you never know what is going to happen next. I loved reading Joan’s story and wondering who she could really trust.
Also, I’m surprised this is AM Kvita’s first novel. She writes so brilliantly and creates a world where witches, vampires, fae, and ghosts coexist in the real world. Set in New York, Kvita writes in such a way that I understand the layout without ever having stepped in NY.
An Unlikely Coven is filled with humor and sweet moments between the characters. This book doesn’t take itself too seriously, which makes it a great book! You’ll fall in love with all the characters in this book and in Joan’s coven of misfits.
This book is perfect for anyone who enjoys the found family trope, books about witches, unlikely heroes, banter as a sign of love, slow-burn romance, diverse characters who are flawed, and trusting yourself and what you bring to the table.
