How You Get The Girl by Scarlett Archer is a slow-burn story about two women who have to fake date during a work event to win a big account.
There’s something about starting your year with a really good book that just makes you hopeful for the New Year. How You Get The Girl is an enemies-to-lovers slow-burn sapphic romance where two women decide to fake date to win a big account at work. It’s a grumpy and sunshine trope that will have you rooting for them to let down their guards and admit they really care for each other. The banter and the tension in this book are top-shelf.

Synopsis from Amazon
Rachael Lancaster thought she had it all figured out–leaving her small hometown behind to chase big dreams in San Francisco. But when she arrives to find her long distance boyfriend cheating, she’s left heartbroken, rain soaked, and stuck in a city she barely knows.
Her fresh start comes with strings attached: a demanding new job, and a roommate who also happens to be her boss. Valerie Vanderbilt is as polished as she is intimidating, a woman who doesn’t believe in small talk or love–after her own heartbreak.
Rachael and Valerie clash at every turn, from the office to their apartment, until a last minute business trip to Los Angeles blurs the lines between hate and something far more dangerous: attraction.
Tense, tender, and irresistibly romantic, How You Get The Girl is a sapphic workplace love story about ambition, vulnerability, and finding home where you least expect it.

My Review of How You Get The Girl
First off, thank you to Scarlett Archer for this advanced reading copy of How You Get The Girl in exchange for my honest review. This was a great book to start 2026 off right.
I don’t typically read Sapphic love stories, but when I read the synopsis for this book, I knew I wanted to read it. I’m so glad I did. It’s the banter and all the will-they, won’t they that make this book so great.
If you love a good slow-burn romance with a fake dating trope, then you need to check out this book. I loved the push and pull of Rachel and Valerie trying to ignore their feelings for each other.
From the opening chapter, I knew that Rachel would steal my heart. I loved her heart and the way she found the good in some pretty bad moments. Also, Jace is the perfect sidekick who’s full of witty humor. He’s the kind of friend you want in your corner when stuff hits the fan.
How You Get The Girl is perfect for anyone who loves a good grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance that builds the tension perfectly throughout the whole book. Will you cry? If you have a heart. Will you giggle like a little girl and kick your legs the first time they kiss? Yes, ma’am. Should you grab this book when it is released? Only if you want to enjoy a greatly written romance.
