Work In Progress by Kat Mackenzie is a hilarious romance novel with the best romantic comedy vibes and swoon-worthy scenes.

This is my 8th book review and I’m really lucky. So far I have enjoyed reading all of the books I have received as an ARC. Work In Progress is a funny and heart-warming story about a woman who lost her job and her boyfriend. She decides to book a three-week literary book tour for just women. The tour is guided by a Scottish man who drives her insane! Will she survive the three weeks without killing her tour guide? Or Will she find herself and love in the UK?

Synopsis From Amazon

UK Bus Trip Goals:

  1. Crawl out of pajamas.
  2. Get over cheating bastard and his stupid ironed jeans.
  3. Have my first real adventure!
  4. Achieve stability, strength, and growth.
  5. Definitely do NOT kiss any British men.

Alice loves a good list. But careful planning didn’t stop her from losing her job and her fiance in one fell swoop. With her dreaded 30th birthday looming on the horizon, Alice makes the first impulsive decision of her life – booking a flight to the UK for a three-week, all-female, literary bus tour. What could possibly go wrong?

Turns out – everything.

Alice arrives to discover that this tour isn’t what she expected. At all. Instead of cool, globe-trotting thirtysomethings with meaningful tattoos, she finds a rickety, antique bus full of fluffy-haired octogenarians. And to make matters infinitely worse, the tour guide makes her blood boil! And that devilish grin of his tells her he’s dead set on making her trip a misery.

But as they travel from castle ruins to cozy pubs, Alice may just find that she’s got it all wrong. The ladies are vivacious. The book club chat is on fire. And damn if that mischievous smile doesn’t threaten to turn her world upside down – and her beloved list right along with it!

My Review of Work In Progress

Thank you to NetGalley, Kat Mackenzie, Avon, and Harper Voyager for this ARC of Work In Progress in exchange for my honest review. It was an amazing read and I’m grateful I got to read it!

Alice is my kind of girl! A girl who loves lists. So it only makes sense that her whole life has fallen apart! I loved Alice and found her quirky and funny. She decides to go on a women-only three-week literary tour in the UK only to find that the women on the tour are older than her… by A LOT!

Robbie, the Scottish no time for B.S. tour guide, is the perfect male leader for this romance. He is a little hot-headed and quick to judge Alice. They become enemies at first sight.

I loved all the older women on the tour with Alice. They are all fully formed characters with witty retorts and wisdom. Alice creates beautiful friendships with these ladies and I love them.

The format of this book gives off Bridget Jones’ Diary vibes in the best way. Kat Mackenzie starts each chapter with lists that make you giggle or excited for the upcoming chapter.

Who I Would Recommend This Book To

I would recommend this book to anyone who is going through a “finding themselves” phase. It’s perfect for anyone who loves witty romantic comedies.

I would categorize this book as an enemies-to-lovers romance with a miscommunication trope. It’s perfect for when you want to travel to the UK but only in a book. It’s a great book to read if you need to lift your spirits. It will make you laugh.

Lastly, Work In Progress is also perfect for anyone who’s a fan of Scottish main characters. You’ll swoon over Robbie and wish you could travel to the UK and meet your own Scottish leading man.
