Synopsis on Amazon
Gail Baines is having a bad day. To start, she loses her job—or quits, depending on whom you ask. Tomorrow her daughter, Debbie, is getting married, and she hasn’t even been invited to the spa day organized by the mother of the groom. Then, Gail’s ex-husband, Max, arrives unannounced on her doorstep, carrying a cat, without a place to stay, and without even a suit.
But the true crisis lands when Debbie shares with her parents a secret she has just learned about her husband to be. It will not only throw the wedding into question but also stir up Gail and Max’s past.
Told with deep sensitivity and a tart sense of humor, full of the joys and heartbreaks of love and marriage and family life, Three Days in June is a triumph, and gives us the perennially bestselling, Pulitzer Prize–winning writer at the height of her powers.
My Review for Three Days in June
Thank you to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage, and Anchor for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. Three Days in June is a quick read about a socially awkward mother whose daughter is getting married one weekend in June. Forced to host her ex-husband for the weekend Gail reminisces on her marriage to Max and hopes better things for her daughter.
I loved reading about Gail and Max’s marriage and seeing how it all fell apart. You also figure out how their marriage affected their daughter, Debbie. Moreover, she seems to misunderstand what happened and makes assumptions about her parents’ relationship. Consequently, when Debbie tells Gail and Max a secret about her future husband, the broken family tries to help navigate a way through. All of them with their ideas of how to handle the situation.
This book is filled with a beautiful sense of humor that subtly helps this novel tackle serious issues. It is a bittersweet story with a hopeful ending. You’ll root for Gail and Max to reconnect knowing it’s not likely.
This was my first book by Anne Tyler, and I understand why she is a Pulitzer Prize winner. Although short, it is filled to the brim with details and nuances. I will be reading more from Anne Tyler.

Who Would I Recommend this Book To
This novel is perfect for people who want a short read (I finished in under 24 hours) and who love contemporary fiction novels. The chapters are long because they are told in three parts. There are plenty of characters that are flawed and you might not fully like them or their actions. You must love complex characters to get this book.
Lastly, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves slow-paced, humorous retellings of ordinary moments. This is one book you should keep your eye on.

Final Thoughts
Three Days in June is not for every reader because if that it lost a star. I only give 5 stars to books I would recommend every reader would enjoy. This book is short but full of funny and interesting characters. They may be flawed but they are trying their best. Also, you’ll find yourself wanting to foster a cat, and the cat in the book might be your favorite side character. If you check out this book, I hope you enjoy it!
