Everything’s Coming Up Rosie by Courtney Walsh is a quirky book about a theatre girl who finds love and her new dream in an unlikely place.

Everything’s Coming Up Rosie is a funny and fresh story about a girl who ends up in a small community theatre. It’s not the job she wanted, but it’s a paying job. Rosie ends up finding herself, a new love, and friends who feel like family. This book is a feel-good story that is perfect for any fan of theatre. I really think you will enjoy this one.

Synopsis from Amazon

Rosie Waterman has one dream: to become a working actor. But lately, that hasn’t been working out. When she loses her apartment and her job on the same day, she does what she always does–puts herself out there, ready to find the next big thing. But a trip home makes her realize that while she’s been struggling to make this dream come true, all her friends have become real adults with careers and weddings and babies on the way. Rosie’s been at this for years, and she has nothing to show for it. But how does she simply let go of her dream?

When she’s offered a job as the director of a regional theatre’s production of Cinderella, she jumps at the chance–even though she’s only directed in college and the job is in Door County, Wisconsin, and not in New York. She has no other offers, and at least she’ll be getting paid to do something theatrical. But when she arrives, she quickly realizes that the “regional theatre” is actually in a retirement community, and the “actors” are actually senior citizens with no acting experience whatsoever.

Working on the show presents new challenges, forcing Rosie to learn how to step up and be the leader this fledgling theatre troupe needs. The more time she spends with her new cast, the more she begins to rethink what it means to dream big, especially when that big dream hasn’t turned out to be at all what she thought it would be. It’s not at all what she expected, but could it be exactly what she needs?

My Review of Everything’s Coming Up Rosie

First of all, thank you to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Audio, and Courtney Walsh for the audio ARC. I LOVED listening to Everything’s Coming Up Rosie.

I gave this book 4 stars, and I really loved it; there was just something holding me back from giving it 5 stars. Rosie is a quirky character who will burrow her way into your heart. You’ll love all her references and her unapologetic nature.

I loved listening to Rosie’s journey of finding herself and her new dream. She was so caught up in her original dream, and I love her pivot. Also, I love how she struggled to be honest with her friends and realized that life isn’t a race among friends.

Booker will make you swoon! As he is described he’s a cross between Scott Eastwood and Glen Powell. I audibly sighed. What a combo! But he’s not just good looks, he’s driven and knows what he wants.

Some side characters I really enjoyed were Arthur and Connie. Arthur is a grumpy and snarky retiree who eventually warms up to Rosie. Connie is our little matchmaker and runs the whole community. This book is filled with funny and quirky characters who make this story whole.

The reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is that I wasn’t a fan of the narrator. She was great for Rosie’s voice but struggled with others.

Who Would Enjoy This Book

Everything’s Coming Up Rosie is perfect for anyone who loves the theatre! Rosie’s references are very niche at times, and Broadway babes will understand them.

If you enjoy these tropes, you will like this book: found family, summer camp vibes, single POV, and finding yourself.

This is a closed-door romance, so not a lot of spice. Some kissing scenes are swoon-worthy. There’s also no foul language, which is nice.

This book is great for anyone who wants a feel-good book with little romance and hilarious characters.
