Somebody’s Rose by Marla Melior is a beautifully told love story of Rose and Bud, from Bud’s point of view. He has loved her since he was 10.
Every once in a while, a book comes along that just fills me with warmth. Somebody’s Rose is a touching story about a young boy who falls in love and is determined to marry her one day. They grow together, and the story tells you all about their life together. They go through all the trials and tribulations of life during the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. I laughed, cried, boiled over with anger, and smiled while reading this book. You will feel all the emotions.

Synopsis from Amazon
When the manuscript arrives at the office of a small publishing company, it has no return address. The required postage is affixed and is made up of a hodgepodge of random stamps. The manuscript itself is typed… typed on an old manual typewriter. On top is a simple note that reads:
I don’t want any money. I just want everyone to know about my Rose.
And thus begins a memoir about a lovely lady named Rose and the man who has been in love with her ever since he was ten years old.
In her signature style, Marla Melior presents this nostalgic, through-the-ages look at lasting love set against a backdrop of American history and pop culture. This is a true celebration of love and marriage and serves as a tribute to our nation and its heroes. Fall in love with Rose and our anonymous narrator as this young couple builds a life together, and learn why every woman in the world wants to be somebody’s Rose.

My Review of Somebody’s Rose
If I had to sum up Somebody’s Rose in a few words, I would say “a sweet and beautiful love story with a historical fiction vibe.” I loved reading this book! It’s everything I love in a book. It will make you laugh, cry, and feel all the emotions.
The narrator’s name is never officially revealed, but people call him “Bud.” From the moment he sees Rose, he’s got it bad. He’s the whole “he if wanted to, he would” vibe. I loved reading how he captured Rose’s heart. Also, I loved all the characters in this book. Bud’s parents and his best friend Marty were some of my favorite side characters.
This book hits you right in the feels and leaves you feeling all the warmth. It’s like reading your grandparents’ love story.
Lastly, I appreciated the representation of veterans and PTSD. I loved all the insight and perspective Bud has about serious issues. I would definitely recommend this book if you love cute love stories with a historical background.
