Today I have decided to try something new with my blog post. Lately, I have been posting a bunch of recipe posts. As much as I LOVE posting recipes, sometimes you just need to switch things up. I decided to join this 20 questions book tag that I saw on Cassandra Stinger’s blog (I added a link to her 20 questions book tag post at the bottom of my post).
Recently, I have been sharing my thoughts and opinions with all of you about books. I hope you enjoy this post and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

1. How Many Books Are Too Many Books In A Series?
Honestly, I’m not a big series reader. I don’t seek them out but I will read ones with three books (max). I think anything over 6 books is way too much. For a fantasy series, I know they need a little more than 3 books to get everything in but more than 6 is my line in the sand!
2. How Do You Feel About Cliffhangers?
I feel like sometimes cliffhangers are necessary. It makes the reader want to buy the next book and figure out what happens. That being said, as a reader I loathe cliffhangers if the next book isn’t released yet. I’m having major flashbacks of reading Catching Fire and that horrible cliffhanger!
3. Hardback Or Paperback?
I don’t really have a preference on hardback or paperback. Usually I’ll get the paperback because it’s a little cheaper but I think hardbacks usually have a prettier cover.
4. What’s Your Favorite Book?
Oh, this is a good one! I’m not being pretentious when I say this, but you probably haven’t heard of it. It’s called How to Kill a Rockstar by Tiffanie DeBartolo. It was one of those books I read in high school that changed my life. I still think about it to this day. But my favorite book this year is The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins (Release date is January 9th, 2024).
5. What’s Your Least Favorite Book?
Ugh, I hate sharing my least favorites because I know that authors put their heart and souls into each book. If I had to choose, my least favorite this year is That First Night by Jenn McMahon. It was very cringey and had a sex scene every other page. Also, there was also about 400 F bombs in the 330-page book. It was just a little too much for my tastes.
6. Do Like Love Triangles?
I’m not a fan of love triangles. Even in films or tv shows they just seem lazy. Who in their right mind is having a difficult time choosing between someone they really love and someone else? I liked the trope as a teenager but as I’m getting older it just seems so tiring.
7. What’s The Most Recent Book You Just Couldn’t Finish?
Oh, I HAVE to finish every book I read. I just need to know how it ends! But the book I struggled with finishing the most recently is If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin. I’m not the biggest YA fan and this book had me rolling my eyes at the main character. I had to keep reminding myself that she’s just 15 years old. I finished it but honestly it wasn’t worth it. It’s definitely a book that teenager Kelly would have liked.
8. What Book Are You Currently Reading?
I’m currently reading a few books. The physical book I’m reading is The Senator’s Wife by Liv Constantine. The book I’m currently listening to on Audible is In the Likely Event by Rebecca Yarros. Lastly, the book I’m reading on my Kindle is Tattered Stars by Catherine Cowles.
9. What Is the Last Book You Recommended to Someone?
The last book I recommended to someone was Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren. This book is so good! I was up until 2 AM crying and trying to finish it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a second chance romance, teenage love, and flashback chapters.
10. What Is The Oldest Book You’ve Ever Read?
Every year I try to read a long book over the course of the year. Last year was Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy and it was so good. I was worried I wouldn’t really understand it but it was fairly easy to comprehend. Anna Karenina was written in 1875.

11. What Is The Newest Book You’ve Read?
The newest book I read is one of my ARCs (advanced reading copy). It’s called The Heiress by Rachel Hawkins. It will be released one January 9th, 2024. I would definitely recommend getting it if you are into thrillers and mysteries.
12. Who Is Your Favorite Author?
I have a few favorite authors. I consider these authors an “automatic buy” whenever they publish a new book. Sometimes I don’t even read the synopsis, I just buy them because I know they will be good. Those authors are Emily Giffin, Elin Hilderbrand, and Jodi Picoult.
13. Do You Prefer To Buy Books Or Borrow Them?
I like to do both but I mostly buy them. I have Kindle Unlimited and that’s where I borrow most of my books.
14. What’s A Book That You Dislike That Everyone Else Seems To Love?
I tend to like a lot of books. I rate almost all the books I read with at least 3.5 stars. It’s hard for me to rate lower than that. There is one instance recently where I didn’t really like a book that others loved. That book is It Starts With Us by Collen Hoover. I just don’t think the story needed the second book. It was very bland and didn’t really add anything.
15. Do You Prefer Bookmarks or Dogears?
Bookmark only! I don’t understand the dogears when you can very easily use anything around you as a bookmark. A receipt, a piece of paper, or really anything near you.
16. Name A Book You Can Always Re-read.
I’m not a big re-reader. I honestly can’t think of any books that I have re-read. It’s just not something I’ve done recently.
17. Can You Read While Listening To Music?
Nope. I like to focus on the words or listening to the book. I think if I tried to listen to music at the same time it could alter how I was feeling about the book. For example, if I’m listening to sad music but reading a happy book I don’t think I would enjoy the book.
18. Do You Prefer One Point of View or Multiple Points of View?
I’m a HUGE fan of multiple POVs (Point of Views). I love when you can get inside a couple pf character’s heads and understand their perspective. I think it just adds another layer to the story. I’m so used to just my narrative in life that reading other people’s thoughts and views interest me very much.
19. Do You Binge Read Books or Do Prefer to Read a Book Over the Course of Several Days?
I’m a mother of 4 kids so it’s very difficult for me to read a book very quickly. I would say my “turnaround” time on books is usually 4 days. Depending on the genre it could be longer. I tend to finish thrillers very quickly. The genre that normally takes me a long time to finish is Non-Fiction and Historical Fiction.
20. Who Would You Like To Tag?
I would like to tag anyone who wants to participate in these 20 questions. You can even let me know in the comments some of your answers. I love hearing from you and hearing your thoughts.
Final Thoughts
Whew! I’m really glad I participated in the 20 questions book tag. Every once in a while, it’s just nice to do something new. One of my goals for the last few months of 2023 is the challenge myself to writing blog posts that aren’t all about recipes. I’ll try to do only one recipe post a month.
Thanks for reading,
Kel
Huge reader here, too! I very rarely reread books (not because I don’t like them … but because life is too short and my TBR list is too long!). My answers are very similar to yours – we could be book besties!
We should definitely be book besties!! I don’t understand people who construct reread books. Don’t you have a TBR that’s the size of Texas? Or am I a crazy lady? Haha
Some very good thoughts about reading. I often will not read a book if there are too many in a series – 3 is max for me. I usually try to read over a few days but it doesn’t always work that way. Thanks for sharing.
So many fun questions here! I had a lot of fun thinking about my answers! And I totally agree I do not like love triangles either–too boring and cheesy usually.
Reading is one of my hobbies besides writing and watching movies. Great recommendation list, thank you.
This is so fun! I am also not a huge series reader, but I have to admit that unless it’s a library book, I love dog-earring books – but my husband thinks I’m crazy! Thanks again for sharing! I may have to do it myself!
I literally have 250+ books in my possession and never thought to do this. It tells me so much about you without you having to directly say anything.
Omg I love this 🖤
What a fun book tag. I agree with you, hardcovers are prettier but I tend to pick up paperbacks cause they cost less – I also find they sometimes take up less space on the shelf but not always. And yes, bookmarks only! I never understood dogearing.
Yes to both of these! I just like holding paperbacks more and the dog ears kill me. Why? Just grab anything as a bookmark! It’s so simple.
