Summer State of Mind by Kristy Woodson Harvey Book Review

Sharing is caring!

Summer State of Mind by Kristy Woodson Harvey is a feel-good book about a NICU nurse who falls for a baseball coach after he finds a baby.

If there’s one thing I know about Kristy Woodson Harvey, it is that she can write a great feel-good summer book. I loved the summer vines of this book and the heart that pours from each page. Summer State of Mind is filled with love, emotions, and a little bit of family secrets. When Mason, the high school baseball coach, finds an abandoned baby, he meets Daisy, a new-to-town NICU nurse. The attraction is instant, and they both fall in love with each other… and the baby.

Synopsis from Amazon

After the worst day in her professional life, burnt-out NICU nurse Daisy Stevens runs to Cape Carolina, North Carolina, looking for a new life—and possibly new romance. On her first day at her “simpler” job, high school baseball coach Mason Thaysden discovers an abandoned baby, sending ripples through the entire tight-knit town of Cape Carolina.

Mason is still struggling to reconcile the scars of the injury that kept him out of the big leagues, stuck in his hometown, and searching for a way out. This newcomer and the child they’ve saved together might be just the motivation he needs to stay put. Sparks fly as Mason acquaints Daisy with Cape Carolina, introducing her to his friends and family, including his batty Aunt Tilley, who is looking for relief from long-buried family secrets and her own fresh start.

But as Daisy becomes increasingly attached to this abandoned child, and begins facing her own demons in the process, a startling discovery is made that threatens to rip the entire town of Cape Carolina apart, placing Daisy, Mason, and Tilley in the center of the storm.

My Review of Summer State of Mind

First off, thank you to NetGalley, Kristy Woodson Harvey, and Gallery Books for an advanced reading copy of Summer State of Mind. This was a truly delightful book.

I was rooting for Daisy and Mason from the opening chapters. I just loved how they met and how they just immediately felt the attraction. Throughout the book, they were grown adults who talked things through. I really enjoyed that aspect of this book.

The main thing I loved about this book was the family at its center of this book. Anytime the family members were together, it just filled my soul. I could read so many more books about this family. Also, I just want to sit at the table with everyone and enjoy a meal.

While the storyline is a little predictable, the emotional journey of this book makes up for it. I was deeply invested in these characters and their stories. I loved Aunt Tilly so much. Whenever it was her POV chapters, I was fully invested. I need more Aunt Tilly now!

This book is perfect if you are looking for a feel-good, no spice romance with family drama that you can read at the pool this summer. This is a great book when you want to feel warm and cozy. Summer State of Mind is full of emotion and heart.
