Picture it: Fall, 2018. I went to a party for a women’s group I’m in and there was bread sitting there cut into pieces on the appetizer table. I tried some and it was delicious! So, I asked around and finally found the girl who made it. “What is this bread?” I asked and she smile sweetly and said, “Oh! It’s just beer bread.”

Now I have never had beer bread and I certainly never thought of pieces of bread to be the perfect appetizer (I serve mine with garlic dip and that recipe I will post next week!). The beer bread was SO good I couldn’t stop eating it. I went home and immediately started looking up the recipe. I made it for JT’s 3rd birthday party and the rest is history.

Every party I host or go to I make this recipe! Here are some reasons why I love it:

  1. A little bit goes a long way. I love that one loaf can make a couple of dozen pieces. I usually make 2 loaves for every party.
  2. I love how easy it is to make. I’m not a baker by any means but this is one I can handle. It’s as easy as banana bread!
  3. It’s delicious! This is one of my most requested appetizers for my parties. Almost all of the beer bread is gone by the end of a party.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of Flour
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 Tbs. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 can of beer or lemon-lime soda. (I prefer using Sprite over beer.)
  • 1/2 Stick of butter (melted)

Beer Bread Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 X 5 bread loaf pan. (If you are looking for a super cute rose gold one click here!)
  2. Add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt to a medium-sized mixing bowl. Whisk ingredients together.
  3. Add the beer or soda and stir with a wooden spoon until it combines well.
  4. Pour half of the butter into the bread loaf pan, then add the bread batter into the pan, and pour the remaining butter on top of the batter.
  5. Bake on the center rack in the oven for 50-60 minutes. Put a toothpick in the bread and if it comes out clean then the middle of the bread is cooked.
  6. Remove from oven and let sit in the pan for 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from pan and cut into pieces. Serve.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t know that when I first made this recipe 4 years ago that it would be one of my most requested appetizers to make (second to french onion dip). Next week I plan on sharing my garlic dip recipe that pairs nicely with the beer bread. You could also make a melted cheese dip to go with this beer bread recipe. If you are having a BIG group of people coming over I suggest you make two loaves. You can also make it the night before if you are short on time before the party starts.   2. Love this idea, looks quick and easy to make. I wonder if I could use baking soda instead of baking powder. Would it still work alright? It reminds me a little of Irish soda bread as it uses plain flour instead of heavy bread flour.

    1. Yes! It’s just like Irish soda bread. I haven’t tried baking soda with it. If you try it let me know how it goes!

  3. I love beer bread. I’ve never heard of using sprite in stead of beer! That’s so interesting.

    I’m not a beer drinker but I do love it in bread!
