Girl’s Girl by Sonia Feldman is a coming-of-age story about Mina, who is suddenly kissed, and it changes her closest friendships.
Do you remember what it was like in high school? Hanging out with your friends, friendships feeling so precarious sometimes, worrying about things that now seem so silly, and falling in love with people even when it might complicate things. Girls’ Girls by Sonia Feldman felt like a time capsule going back to high school days. Mina is unexpectedly kissed one night, and it changes the dynamic of your closest friends. Over the course of a summer, Mina must accept her feelings and process what it all means to find a new normal.

Synopsis From Amazon
Fifteen-year-old Mina’s whole world is her two best friends, but after an unexpected kiss, the established dynamics of their trio quickly unravel. Everything that was once shared openly, from clothes to secrets, now feels impossibly fragile. Loyalties shift and tensions simmer across the long days of this pivotal summer, where the girls have nowhere new to go and everything new to feel.
Looking back, an adult Mina traces the undercurrents of longing that shaped her first experience of desire. The rituals of girlhood—gossip, selfies, sleepovers, and videogames—become threads in a delicate, volatile web of intimacy, in which everything feels achingly fleeting and permanently etched. Loving one person, Mina learns, can change the way we love everyone else—including ourselves.
Bold, vulnerable, and sharply observant, Girl’s Girl is a sundrenched and dewy snapshot of modern girl culture set in the blaze of one suburban Midwest summer.

My Review of Girl’s Girl
First off, thank you to Sonia Feldman, Dial Press, and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy of Girl’s Girl. It was such a raw and endearing story about teenage friendships.
Sonia Feldman writes with such honesty and raw emotion that you really feel everything Mina is going through. This book embodies teenage turmoil through tough times and the true feeling of being a confused teenage girl.
One thing I really loved about this book was the fact that Mina and El loved playing The Sims. Nothing makes me feel more nostalgic for my younger years than the mention of The Sims. Such a throwback, and I loved the characters they created. I remember playing with friends and creating lives for our avatars.
Another thing I really loved about Girl’s Girl was Mina’s relationship with her mother. This relationship was so relatable. Sometimes your mom can be your biggest challenge and your biggest ally.
This book was a very quick read, and I was sucked in by wanting to know how the problems would resolve themselves. This book is perfect if you love coming-of-age stories with complex teenage characters. It’ll feel like going back to high school days, with high school problems.
