Written in Starlight by Sloane Brooks: A Book Review

Sharing is caring!

Written in Starlight by Sloane Brooks is a mashup of genres where a woman from the Regency era jumps into a sci-fi book to save a stranger.

Once in a while, you come across a book with such a unique premise that you have to read it. I’m not a huge fantasy reader, but this book had me hooked from the first few chapters. Written in Starlight is about a woman in the Regency era and a man in a sci-fi, futuristic world. They both find books where they can read each other’s stories. They end up falling in love. The woman then decides to write herself into his story to save his life. Will they be able to make it through the story together? Will their fates intertwine, or is it a horrible mistake?

Synopsis from Amazon

Della Farley has always known her place: scrubbing floors, keeping her head down, and dreaming of something more. But when she stumbles upon a strange book that seems to be writing itself—a story about a man named Ansel Tulzok, a wanted fugitive traveling the stars—her quiet life turns extraordinary.

Light-years away, Ansel finds a mirror copy of the same book. Page by page, the story unfolds with details of a woman he’s never met—one whose words feel achingly familiar. As the two begin writing to each other through the mysterious pages, they open doors not just to each other’s worlds, but to their most vulnerable hopes and fears.

But every story has its price. And as their worlds entwine and their hearts collide, Della and Ansel must decide how far they’re willing to go to change the ending fate has written for them.

My Review of Written in Starlight

First, thank you to Sloane Brooks, NetGalley, and Atria Books for an advance reading copy of Written in Starlight. It was a fun and delightful read that I really enjoyed!

One thing I really love about this book is the unique premise. Another thing I really enjoyed was the banter between Della and Ansel.

I loved how Della goes from a Regency era, where her only option of escaping her life is by marrying a rich man, to choosing to jump into a strange world with rockets and gadgets beyond her wildest imagination. The fact that Della and Ansel kept choosing each other even when they never met was really cute. They bonded over the fact that they could read each other’s thoughts inside the books. Also, I loved when Della used that to make Ansel sweat.

This book is perfect for anyone who wants to read a unique romance with found family, great banter, low spicy scenes, and some sci-fi/fantasy elements. Overall, Written in Starlight is a fun and exciting book that will hook you in right away!
