As a parent, it is important to find awesome movies for your children to watch. Here are 14 movies for preteens that everyone will enjoy!
As our children get older, it can be harder to find movies that entertain our kids while also preserving their innocence. In a time when they can watch any movie at any time, here are 14 awesome movies for preteens that parents will love. Most of these movies are from our childhoods and are great to share with our children. I recommend putting these movies on when you are having a family movie night. It’s fun to remember these movies and create memories with our children. Order pizza, pop some popcorn, and make it a true family movie night.
The movies on this list have been chosen because they will keep preteens entertained without a ton of violence, profanity, or overtly sexual content. I will add whether these movies do contain some of those things or whether I think they should be watched by “older” preteens. A preteen is a child between the ages of 9 and 12.

Sports Movies For Preteens
Remember The Titans- We watched Remember the Titans last week, and it still hits. I swear there’s something about the music and the games. It’s perfect for any kid who enjoys football, and it explains a time in history that is hard to explain to children. There are some moments when characters call each other names, but there is very little profanity, minor violence, and no sexual content. You can watch it on Disney+ or buy here: https://amzn.to/3UH31Kt
Sandlot- Another classic sports movie I loved in my preteens! This movie is a staple to watch around the 4th of July. My kids loved watching this baseball movie. The only downside is all the name-calling and swear words. There is some drug use (the tilt-a-whirl scene still makes me sick) and some sexual content. Overall, a good movie to get kids in the baseball spirit. You can watch it on Disney+ or buy it here: https://amzn.to/4xQ2ep2
Mighty Ducks- I remember being a kid and watching The Mighty Ducks for the first time. I didn’t know a thing about hockey, but I fell in love with these underdogs. It’s full of heart and a great sports movie for preteens. There are some bad words in this movie and mild violence (hockey is a rough sport). You can stream it on Disney+ or buy it here: https://amzn.to/4wyZX0c
GOAT- This movie came out earlier this year and has become my oldest son’s favorite movie. He loves the story of a goat trying to play roarball, which is basically a rough version of basketball. It is creative and inventive. Plus, the message is really sweet. There is no profanity, mild violence, and no sexual content. You can stream it on Netflix or buy it here: https://amzn.to/4wyZX0c
Movies for Preteen Girls
The Princess Diaries- Last year, we tried to watch this movie with my children, and I concluded that my daughter was too young to really enjoy this film. There is no profanity, sexual content, or violence. You can stream it on Disney+ or buy it here: https://amzn.to/4gl7Ccy
Freaky Friday (2003)- We haven’t watched this one as a family yet because I’m waiting for my kids to be a bit older. I can’t wait until we watch it. I love the banter between Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan. Plus, Lindsey in the height of her career? How can you not love it? This movie contains mild sexual content, mild profanity, and no violence. You can watch it on Disney+ or buy it here: https://amzn.to/4qJB54Z
The Parent Trap (1998)- A couple of weeks ago, I turned on this movie for my family, and my daughter was hooked! She kept asking when we could watch it again. This movie is full of hijinks and fun. This movie reminds me of my childhood, and it fills me with joy to see my kids enjoying it. The Parent Trap has no violence, no profanity, and some sexual content. You can stream it on Disney+ or buy it here: https://amzn.to/3ShSd4U

Adventure-Packed Movies for Preteens
Jumanji- This movie has been watched on repeat in our car. We usually download movies on Netflix and watch them on the iPad. This is the one the kids have been really enjoying. You can stream this on Netflix or buy it here: https://amzn.to/46bI8cW
The Goonies- We haven’t watched The Goonies yet, but as I was thinking about what to put on this list of movies for preteens, I remembered this movie. This movie does feature a moderate amount of profanity, some sexual content, and some violence. This movie isn’t on streaming, but you can buy it here: https://amzn.to/46bI8cW
Holes- This movie is perfect if you have children who misbehave; tell them you’ll send them to a camp like this. JUST KIDDING! But what a good threat. Holes is one of those movies you probably forgot about, but once you turn it on, you remember what a classic movie it is. I mean, who hasn’t said, “I’m tired of this, Grandpa!” It’s full of great heartwarming moments and humor. This movie features some sexual content, some profanity, and a moderate amount of violence.
