These are the authors who, when they release a book, you immediately grab a copy because you know you’re going to love their books. I have found that in the last few years I have 12 authors that I think write absolutely incredible books. Each of these authors writes books that have stayed with me long after I have finished them.

I have divided these authors into three categories: thriller and mystery, romance, and contemporary. Every single author on my list has written some great books you should check out. Plus, I have added my favorite book(s) by each author. I hope you find a new favorite author.

My Favorite Thriller and Mystery Authors

Richard Osman- Osman is the author of the Thursday Murder Club series. It’s a series about a group of retired people who solve murders. I really enjoy this series because it’s a cozy murder mystery. There are 5 books in the series. I love listening to these books as audiobooks. It’s great if you want a funny and cozy murder mystery series with some twists and turns. My favorite book by Richard Osman is The Last Devil to Die.

Alice Feeney- Feeney writes some of my favorite twisty psychological thrillers. There’s always some last-minute twist that will leave you reeling and wondering how you didn’t see it coming. Her books are the kind of books that grab you on the first page. Ones that you can’t stop reading. My favorite Alice Feeney book is Daisy Darker.

Karin Slaughter- I’m new to Karin Slaughter, but she’s definitely one of my favorites. She writes crime thrillers that usually feature a person in law enforcement. Also, she writes the Will Trent series about a GBI agent who has dyslexia and a troubled past. I have yet to read one of those, but I watch the TV show and love it. My favorite book by Karin Slaughter is Pretty Girls.

Lisa Jewell- Jewell writes dark mystery novels full of twists. I know if I’m reading one of her books they will be staying with me long after I finish it. My favorite book by Lisa Jewell is Then She Was Gone.

James Patterson- Patterson has written many, many books in his lifetime. I have not read them all, nor do I plan to. The ones I really love are the Alex Cross series and the Women’s Murder Club series. Both series have lots of books in them. My current favorite James Patterson book is Kiss The Girls (Book 2 of the Alex Cross series).

My Favorite Romance Authors

Annabel Monaghan- Sometimes you read a book from an author and love it so much, you have to read more! I love Annabel Monaghan romance books because they feel like books I would read in high school but with spicy scenes and more serious topics. They are hopeful and light-hearted. My favorite book by Annabel Monaghan is It’s a Love Story.

Tessa Bailey- Bailey is one of the best spicy romance writers. She writes very spicy scenes without taking away from the plot. She writes with such heart, and no matter what trope of romance you like, she has a book for it. My favorite Tessa Bailey book is Fangirl Down.

Carley Fortune- If you are looking for awesome summer romance books, Carly Fortune is your girl. I love the way she writes and the stories she creates. These books have some spice, but not enough to distract from the story. My favorite Carly Fortune book is Every Summer After.
